Makita Impact Drivers

The development of the lithium ion battery has done more to transform the way people view Makita impact drivers than anything else. Of course they still have a 120v AC impact, but by far their biggest selling models are their powerful and durable lithium ion cordless impacts.

Lithium Ion Batteries Hold Way More Juice

The reason for this is threefold. First, unless you're working on a large large commercial job site, a fully charged lithium ion battery is pretty much all that you will need to get your job done. Impact driving tasks tend to be shorter, intermittent types of jobs and lithium ion batteries now hold all the juice you'll need.

Making it Easier on Your Hand and Wrist By Going Cordless

Secondly, it's no secret that impact driving jobs tend to be hard on the hand and wrist. So going cordless is just one more way to make it just that much easier, by doing away with having to drag a cord around trailing off your tool. Thirdly, impact driving work can tend to be spread out around a job site. Going cordless means you're mobile.

More RPM More IPM and Handy New Features

Today's cordless impacts also deliver more speed and torque. This in spite of not running on AC power. In fact the four-pole vairable speed motor on larger impacts runs 2300 RPM, and delivers 2200 IPM. Makita impacts also feature some new handy features like forward lighting, and easy, one touch, locking ¼ inch chuck.

Driving Smaller Nuts and Screws With a Light Impact

Another thing to think about, is that Makita impact drivers are great for driving nuts, bolts and screws of all sizes. This is precisely why they make available such a wide range of tools to choose from including small and angled impact drivers. They're just so much more controllable than a standard electric drill.

Makita Impact Drivers Do Away With Compressors and Hoses

Cordless Makita impact drivers also do a great job of replacing pneumatic drivers on the job site. More powerful motors and adjustable impact per minute rates, combined with the fact that there's no longer a need for a compressor and hoses, now makes them the preferred choice in an ever increasing number of today's shops.

18 & 14 Volt Cordless Makita Impact Drivers Now Have Percussion Mode

Makita cordless impact drivers just got more versatile with the addition of a fourth impact drilling operational mode on their 18v & 14.4v lithium-ion cordless models. So why this fourth mode when these tools already have a hammer mode?

Simply put, a hammer drill is used to drill though materials like stucco, cement, stone and brick. It engages when the tip of the bit is pressed against the surface to be drilled. Hammer drills are quite effective, but they are rough.

Not something you would use to drill more precise holes in hard materials like marble and tile.

Percussion is More BPM Delivered With Less Force

For harder woods, composites, tile, marble, and even metal where burnishing and drill tip overheating are often a problem, simply engage the percussion mode. Unlike impact, the percussion mode runs full time.

That is that it doesn't engage when the tip is pressed against the work surface.

The percussion effect is gentler and less forceful then the impact effect. This means that while it does make drilling into hard materials faster and easier, it's not so rough that you're left with rough finished holes or cracking, as is so often the case with impact drilling.

In fact on percussion mode, the 18V BTP140SFE puts out an astounding 27,600 beats per minute. On the other hand on its impact mode, the beats per minute drop way down to 3,200. Percussion is “more beats with less force”, for more delicate drilling into hard materials.
